Alumnae Quarterly, Summer 1999

Hello again! My mailbox has been a little light recently, so I think I need to send out some challenges. In every house at Smith, there is at least one person still in touch with fellow class mates. What I plan to do is begin each column with information on Smithies by their houses and I want to include all houses. So, from Green Street to the Quad, I hope to see letters on what our classmates are doing, whether it be selling books in Greenwich Village or working with the poor in India. Write, write, write! Now, on to the news:

Diane Smoyer started an alternative dispute resolution firm with a  national practice located in downtown Washington, D.C. and was also recently appointed adjunct professor at Georgetown Law School and George Washington University Law School to teach negotiations and alternative dispute resolutions.  Diane regularly gets together with Smithies in the Washington, D.C. area and had news on the following:  Cathy Katone '90 works in the arts in urban development in downtown Washington, D.C.  Heather Frey finished her graduate studies in English and now works for a company in suburban MD. Shelly Sapone lives in VA and works in sales in downtown DC. Claire Jenkins is an attorney in suburban VA.

Best wishes are in order for Alyson Montgomery Opsahl and husband Alan who wed April 18, '98 in Dallas, TX.  She writes, "After a wonderful honeymoon in the Turks and Caicos, we are at home in Indianapolis." Alyson is an account manager in the preferred alliances division of Resort Condominiums International.

Ricki Pollack Frayman welcomed second daughter Avery Ryan on October 29, '98. Her first daughter, Rylie Hadyn is 2. Ricki writes, "Both are wonderful and possible future Smithies, although Evan, my husband, is hoping at least one follows his footsteps back to Hanover". I think we are all with Ricki and rooting for Smith!  Evan is an attorney at Goelman and Love in Jacksonville, FL in the medical malpractice defense area, while Ricki is a third year emergency medicine resident at the University of Florida.  Only more year to go," says Ricki, "and I get to be a real doctor."

Meg Butler, Anne Burton and Jessamyn Lewiscelebrated the 10th anniversary of their friendship in Chicago this past September. Anne lives in Chicago, Meg flew in from NJ, and Jessamyn came from Los Angeles. It was the first time all three had been together since graduation.

Thank you again for all of your contributions!
